Interview No. 110 in the Custy's Interview Series features David Power talking about her new album, the eighteen Moloney. In the liner notes to the album David sets out a rather interesting history to a chanter that he received in 2003 when he was moving to the USA with his family. It was given to him as a parting gift by Mal Whyte and its history became a journey of discovery. Once referred to as the eighteen Moloney and made before the famine by Thomas and Andrew Moloney it has passed through some interesting hands. Owners included Pat Ward, Gildas O' Shea, Willie Rowsome, Jem Byrne, Sean Reid, Willie Clancy and Mal Whyte. Its pitched between B and B flat and is now back in use. Some of the influential Gael Linn Willie Clancy recordings were on the chanter.
We did an album review which you can read here. Also visit www.davidpowerup.com/discography.html
