GROG featuring Carmel Gunning - CCE, Monkstown, Dublin 30th November.

GROG the new group featuring Tradconnect member  Carmel Gunning are performing probably one of their last gigs of the year at CCE Headquarters in Monkstown Dublin tonight.  The show starts at 8.30pm.  The new group includes Joe Grady on fiddle, John Regan on accordion and Seamus O' Kane on bodhrán.

Carmel is regarded as one of the most accomplished whistle players that this country has produced. For pure quality and clarity in playing you will not get much better.  She is noted for her fast paced music that is viewed as common in the South Sligo style.  Her ornamentation is more far reaching than others and for this reason she has set the standards that others follow or in most cases simply aspire to.  Not only that but she is is also a renowned flute player and singer with several albums to her name.  In addition to her work on the stage and in the studio she is also the Director of The Carmel Gunning International Summer School based in Sligo, which is now an annual feature on the traditional festival map with students travelling from all over the world to attend. This year is the 14th such festival and it runs from 10th - 11th  August 2013.  Well worth checking out. You can also check out one of her albums at celticgrooves.homestead.com
