New single and Autumn tour from Louth band Kern

Louth contemporary folk band Kern have announced an autumn tour between August 26th and October 27th this year (see dates above). The band is made up of uilleann piper Brendan McCreanor, fiddler Barry Kieran and singer/songwriter and guitarist SJ McArdle. We featured their new single in July this year and include it below.

Till The Docklands Drown” is the first new music Kern has released since last year’s debut album, the Trevor Hutchinson-produced False Deceiver. Describing the group fRoots Magazine said they have "a solid grasp of traditional and contemporary forms. Rich sonorous blending of uilleann pipes and fiddles lift the instrumentals while SJ McArdle's gritty voice and dexterous songs add an interesting extra lustre"

The new single was recorded at RedBox in Belfast and produced by Donal O’Connor (Ulaid, At First Light, Pauline Scanlon), who also plays piano and Hammond organ on the track.

The song – written by SJ McArdle – is performed by actress Tara Lee in a key scene in last year’s Element Pictures hit movie A Date for Mad Mary (IFTA, Best Film, 2017). The band’s own version broadens the palette to include electric guitar, keyboards and harmony vocals.

This single is available as a free download to Radio Broadcasters that are part of our Download Centre. Contact us for details.
