Hanz Araki has released a new track from Foreign Shore, his 11th recording to date and we include a playlist below. He hits a consistently high level across the album's 11 tracks with selections coming from the Irish, Scottish and American traditions.
Vocally he sets his approach at a much more tempered level. There is little in the way of over interpretation that can so distract. This takes you into the material in a more inviting way. Songs include a version of My Jolly Roving Tar picked up from Vincent Doherty as well a great version of Charladies' Ball made popular by Jimmy O' Dea in the 1950's.
His flute playing on tracks like The Chicago/The Maids of Mt Kisco/The Virginia seems to likewise reach new levels. Accompaniment, particularly the guitar of Cary Novotny add to a very accessible recording. Other support musicians include Eddie Parente, Lisa Ornstein, Colleen Raney, Bob Soper and Mike Cody.
