I'm coming to the conclusion Dick that it is a young man's game. Spent the day there from 9am til 10pm and mostly sat in on the competitions, button accordian under 12, fiddle under 12, fiddle 12-15. The standard in the latter is just so high but a great way to spend a couple of hours. Streets packed and I spent a while with some friends from Manchester in a session that was far too good and fast for my limited abilities. Listening is a skill as well so I did lots of that. Had the pleasure of hearing bodhran player Robbie Walsh in a session who I have to admit is the best bodhran player that I have ever seen in a session. All Ireland winner. I shot a video on my phone which I will try to upload but it would not do the man justice. Seamus Tansey was holding court on a street corner for some considerable time. Had to make a decision at 10pm, have a drink and sleep in the car for the night or drive home. I chose the latter. Years ago the latter would never have featured in my thinking hense my opening line. Overall the quality of the sessions was'nt great. Maybe I didn't give it enough time. The best part of the Fleadh is sitting in on the competitions. The duo's, trios is like having a series of 10 minute concerts but a lot don't bother with them. Havin said all that if I had the time and a couple of mates to go up with to play a few tunes in some off the beaten track pub than I would do it. Till next year.

YUCK .... it looks terrible Tony!

I'm sure if I had gone, I'd have ended up like the bloke in your 5th photo above ... bored & asleep! :-)

Any videos? ;-)
