Jayne Pomplas and Ian Kinsella excel on their new duet album 'John Sa Cheo'

From the green hills and finger lakes of upstate New York to the flatland of the Curragh of Kildare, Jayne Pomplas and Ian Kinsella emerge with an album that encompasses the best qualities that you would expect on a fiddle and guitar album of traditional music.

We have come across both names before - Jayne with her duo album alongside Luke Deaton from Dublin (My Mind will never be Easy) and her previously released eponymous album recorded in New York and Ian's most recent album with Dublin fiddle player Padraig O'Neill "When the Prescription Runs Out."

Despite the fact that it is essentially a fiddle and guitar album we are treated to what some people have described as an explosively full sound from the two musicians.

With Jayne's dexterity and tune choices coupled with Ian's dynamic backing, diversely interchanging between counter melodies, Travis picking to full-on rhythmic drive, the two collaborate here to provide very unique musical experience. We are treated to a rousing, swingy rendition of Sean sa Cheo which ends on a far removed version of the Green Bushes of Rushes from the opening idea, to beautiful takes on Carolan's "Si Bheag Si Mhor" and Phil Cunningham's "Flatwater Fran."

The recording is a must for all fans of duo albums where both instruments stand out on their own platforms while the cohesion between the two players is always present.

Having toured the U.S as part of an eight-piece band in early 2017 the two decided to hit the studio straight after, thus providing the fresh energetic sound that is heard on "John sa Cheo."

The album can be purchased online on iTunes. If you are an Irish radio broadcaster the album is available as a free download through Tradconnect. Contact us for details.
