The Summer is coming to an end. We have one more gig to play before September hits us. But what a summer it has been. From the magical island of Sherkin, of the coast of Cork, to the equally magical island of Ile de Groix (we’re playing there on Wednesday) off the coast of Brittany.  Brittany has always been a place where our music feels at home and this year’s concert in Paimpol was no different. It reminded me of a gig in Kinsale three years ago when the whole room shook , grooved, danced and moved as one. The concert in Paimpol, though it was outdoors, was much the same. Maybe it’s caused by the the proximity to the sea!

The focus in September will be on finishing the album! The number 1 priority!!!  We will, however, be doing a mini-tour in Germany – our first tour there since the 1994 St Patrick’s Day Celebration Tour!! (I seem to remember it being as bad as it sounds!!).  Rónán has finished his sixth solo album! It is called Sos (meaning break as in a rest!). It was recorded in Dublin with Californian DJ/Producer Pete Pamf. I heard it last week and it’s great! It is a mix of ska, funk (Pete’s expertise), folk and rock – guitars and drums and bass and piano and beats and sounds and vocals!

Rónán is playing with the band (Pete, Nick Seymour, Steve Mogerly and Conor Murray) that recorded the album with him this coming Friday as part of the National Heritage Week in Dublin’s Christ Church Cathedral. The album will be released this coming Autumn – late October kinda time!  Tickets can be purchased, for what will be a unique concert in one of Dublin’s truly amazing venues.

August 31/September 1st – some of us will be doing sets at Rossa’s Puball Gaeilge  tent at the Electric Picnic. He has a wonderful array of  musicians, messers, maniacs, madsters, singers, songwriters, stagers, poets, & prosers appearing on his stage.

September 13th  - Hotel Reiss, Kassel

Our first gig ever in Kassel

September 14th  - Shamanists European Network Festival

A small festival in the small  German town of Burg Ludwigstein in Witzenhausen near Goettingen.

September 15th – Akustik in Agathen, Schopfheim.

An acoustic gig in a small church in another small German town. 200 people listening carefully. I think this will be a real treat.

September 26th – The Quays, Galway

We haven’t been to Galway in over a year. We will be very squeezed in on this stage – we need to lose weight!!! This is a free gig, by the way – it is an Arthur’s Day thingie!

Bits & bobs

-       Dee’s Dusty Wine Bottle  was used by a young American figure skater, Wyoma ‘Mia’ Crandall, for her winning performance in the intermediate ladies freestyle event! Good for her. I am hoping I can track down some footage and I will post it on our facebook and web site pages.

-       Rossa, Dee and Eoin used their new amps on Sherkin Island for the first time! They are manufactured by AER, designed for acoustic instruments, a tad expensive but produce a clear and true signal.

-       One the musicians on the Dublin scene passed away last week - Beverly or Bev as he was better known. We played with him once at a wedding and he played one of the most remarkable saxophone solos I have ever heard. He will be sadly missed.

Phrase of the month

I received a lovely email from someone in America saying how much she enjoyed the phrase of the month. Thanks Karen.
