Traditional Irish Music
The Summer is coming to an end. We have one more gig to play before September hits us. But what a summer it has been. From the magical island of Sherkin, of the coast of Cork, to the equally magical island of Ile de Groix (we’re playing there on Wednesday) off the coast of Brittany. Brittany has always been a place where our music feels at home and this year’s concert in Paimpol was no different. It reminded me of a gig in Kinsale three years ago when the whole room shook , grooved, danced and moved as one. The concert in Paimpol, though it was outdoors, was much the same. Maybe it’s caused by the the proximity to the sea!
The focus in September will be on finishing the album! The number 1 priority!!! We will, however, be doing a mini-tour in Germany – our first tour there since the 1994 St Patrick’s Day Celebration Tour!! (I seem to remember it being as bad as it sounds!!). Rónán has finished his sixth solo album! It is called Sos (meaning break as in a rest!). It was recorded in Dublin with Californian DJ/Producer Pete Pamf. I heard it last week and it’s great! It is a mix of ska, funk (Pete’s expertise), folk and rock – guitars and drums and bass and piano and beats and sounds and vocals!
Rónán is playing with the band (Pete, Nick Seymour, Steve Mogerly and Conor Murray) that recorded the album with him this coming Friday as part of the National Heritage Week in Dublin’s Christ Church Cathedral. The album will be released this coming Autumn – late October kinda time! Tickets can be purchased, for what will be a unique concert in one of Dublin’s truly amazing venues. Entertainment.ie
