Traditional Irish Music
"Suas Síos a work of rugged beauty, a work of maturity; a work that encapsulates their exuberance, their surprising tenderness and their sheer talent.Recorded, mixed and mastered by the ubiquitous Mr Karl Odlum (Ham Sandwich, Lisa O’Neill, Mic Christopher) the album is bristling with energy, passion and incisive musical intelligence. The last couple of years have seen Kíla return to their globetrotting exploits (Croatia, Malaysia, France, Spain, Switzerland) and it was during these gigs abroad that these songs and tunes were given an opportunity to breath and gain nuances that might not have emerged ensconced in the studio environment.
As well as the wonerful new album Kíla are celebrating the fact that the film they scored last year, Song of the Sea (in collaboration with French composer Bruno Coulais) has just been nominated for an Oscar for the category of Best Animated Feature. Song of the Sea was made by Kilkenny’s Cartoon Saloon and as with their last film( Secret of Kells), this sumptuous film is an aural and visual feast. As well as the Oscar nomination the film has been nominated in 7 categories for the Annie Awards (the animation awards). Kíla have received a nomination for their music and other nominees in the category include Hollywood heavy-hitters Danny Elfman (Mr Peabody & Sherman) and John Powel (How to Train Your Dragon 2).
The video for lead single from the album (the title track ‘Suas Síos’) features a water theme coming from the mind of talented Swedish director Mattias Gordon. Gordon, was recruited through the Radar Music Videos website (http://www.radarmusicvideos.com) where directors from around the world had the opportunity to pitch their ideas to Kíla. Mattias was chosen over pitches from Australia, Spain, Mexico and England for his inventive animations and previous work with Lau and Kathryn Williams." Source : Kíla
