Traditional Irish Music
Traditional Celtic folk duo Kinnfolk released their self-titled debut album on March 7, 2020—just one week before the COVID-19 pandemic swept into Virginia and shut everything down. The timing was unfortunate, as most of the city’s St. Patrick’s Day events (the bread and butter of Celtic musicians!) were cancelled. But the pair still count themselves lucky, as they gave their album a proper launch with a packed house for their March 6th release party at the 3rd Street Coffeehouse.
Josh Kinn and Julie Borden weave bouzouki, bodhran, and smooth vocal harmonies in their Celtic music from the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The pair’s musical style is heavily influenced by the sounds of the Roanoke, Virginia traditional Irish session, where they met in 2017.
