Traditional Irish Music
In a continuation of our Online Album Launch series we are delighted to confirm that Louise Mulcahy will launch her new album Tuning the Road here on Tradconnect next Thursday 10th April. In this series of articles we introduce our members and readers to newly released albums. It will be the first time anywhere that you get to hear a full track from the album.
‘Tuning the road’ is the debut solo album by Louise featuring flute, uilleann pipes and whistle. Fintan Vallely in the liner notes writes that "each of the fourteen interesting selections here is the tip of a pyramid of considered choice. And indeed of a power of music exploration, for Louise plays with equal finesse on C, D and Eflat flutes, whistle and C uilleann pipes. Tracks are grouped to hold the distinctive ‘feels’ of each of these, particularly so of the pipes on which she has a profoundly evocative, ‘old’ style. On this instrument one can indeed close the eyes and in reverie be with Séamus Ennis and Willie Clancy at the first magical Píobairí Uilleann tionóil at Bettystown and Ballymahon." Matt Molloy also states that "Her choice of material, her approach to the melodies coupled with tasteful inventiveness make this a very welcome entry to the growing catalogue of Traditional Irish flute music."
Its going to be a busy week for Louise because on the Saturday 12th April, after her online launch she will appear at the TG4 Gradam Ceoil award ceremony and concert at University Concert Hall, Limerick. She will be on stage celebrating the work of Mick Moloney in the company of Michelle and Mick Mulcahy. Tickets are available from www.uch.ie/events
