Traditional Irish Music
Lúnasa must be one of the busiest gigging bands at the moment. They always have a tour schedule that seems to stretch into the distant future with dates already set up to two years in advance. The schedule below is no different. So check out their dates and if they are at a location near you then book a ticket. We include below their fan newsletter for any Tradconnectors that follow one of our leading groups.
How’s it going? We think you’re well overdue some Lúnasa news, so here it is …
The big news, for an instant Lúnasa fix, is that from today you can watch our Feb 27 2013 Sellersville, PA concert filmed for the WHYY ‘On Canvas’ programme. On Canvas is an Emmy award-winning music and performance program recorded live on location. The On Canvas people always put a great deal of effort into their films and post-production. It should be pretty special! See for yourself here. We hear they have a few surprises in store for the viewers … and us!
This one is more of a question than news … do you have your copy of our new album ‘Lúnasa with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra’? The enhanced CD, including footage of us performing ‘Morning Nightcap’ with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra filmed at Dublin’s National Concert Hall hasn’t been released in some countries yet, but the album is available worldwide on iTunes. If you want the enhanced CD version you can buy direct from us direct here. We feel this project is one of our greatest achievements. Here’s what the papers say …
“Lúnasa with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra is an outstanding album.” Irish Echo (USA)

“The temptation to crank up the volume after hearing the opening notes of this album will be strong. Don’t resist. Just do it.” Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
“The individual fiddle and pipe go skipping … and the cushion of strings rolls massively after them …” Pop Matters
“Lúnasa and The RTE Concert Orchestra have created an exceptional instrumental CD that skillfully combines classical and folk styles.” Seattle PI
“The lively thrill of Lúnasa with the awe-inspiring power of one of Ireland’s most celebrated orchestras results in a powerhouse record.” Irish America
” … bridging the gap between the energy of the small pub and the grandiosity of a concert performance … panoramic beauty … an absolute corker.” Jazz Weekly
On the live front, it’s festival season so we’re back on the road towards the end of the month with shows in Ireland – Belfast and Ennis; Spain – Guadalajara and Oviedo; France – Quimper, Parthenay, Nantes and Guingamp; UK – Cropredy and Bath. Our Fall/Winter programme kicks off with a UK tour kicking off 21st September at Rye Arts Festival. Full tour info here.
That’s all the big bits. Lots more to tell when we next see you on the road.
