New release from the outstanding 'Mendicity' by Slide

Slide have released a new track from their Mendicity album from last year.  As an album it is nearly split 50/50 between songs and instrumental.  Each part is very strongly structured, arranged and played. They include 6 songs on the album with 5 instrumental tracks. The voice of Dave Curley makes the vocal tracks very striking indeed. He has a slightly hazy texture to his voice that would fit just as easily on a pop album.  The songs also have soundtrack quality and you could easily imagine working well on a TV Drama, especially a song called The Bird.  Its a central track that was written by Martin Denning in 1993 with Slide's arrangement beautifully crafted around the delicate lyrics.  They bring the same quality to Roger The Miller and Song For a Winter's Night.  These vocal tracks are mixed in with 5 traditional tracks that include slides, an Old-Time tune and some jigs and reels. All are expertly handled and it is an album that satisfies on many fronts, especially for those that like some modern flavoured trad mixed in with some outstanding vocal tracks. The track below includes John Kelly's Slide / An Cóisire / Denis Murphy's Slide #3 / Johnny O'Leary's
