Traditional Irish Music
We often ask artists to describe their music and replies in the main are gentle and reserved. One band that we admire a lot are Sligo outfit Moxie who bring a refreshing alternative sound to the table. We listen to in excess of 120 albums each year and at least 80%+ are traditional or predominately traditional. There are only a handful of artists that are creating something alternative or contemporary. Here is what Moxie posted recently on their Facebook page on the issue of the tradition being broken, which of course it isn't.
"We would like to say something about this talk of the tradition being broken as we have been a heavily mentioned part of the topic. We are playing music that we create ourselves. The root of our music came from playing both 'Traditional' and 'Modern' Irish Music while bringing in influences of Jazz, Hip Hop, funk, bluegrass, Classical and other world music.
There are a lot of people saying we are bastardising 'Traditional Music' but that is not true. The pure traditional music is safe in the hands of many bands, solo performers and hard working people behind the scenes who dedicate their careers to the Tradition and play the music they WANT.
