Traditional Irish Music
Last year Canadian group Nua whose members include Jacob McCauley on bodhrán, James Law on fiddle and Graeme McGillivray on guitar, released a debut album called BOLD which received a lot of positive press. Rooted in traditional Irish and Scottish music their music absorbs external influences from their varied backgrounds in Jazz and other world music. Their debut was predominantly made up of self-compositions and the categorisation of many of the tracks is difficult due to the unique approach taken by the group. The result was modern and contemporary with tunes stretched to breaking point and then reconstructed in their search for new avenues of expression.
They have now released a new video with of couple of new compositions that will feature on a new release planned for 2015. It’s a progressive modern sound that once again takes on board many influences. Not to sure about the camera on the end of the fiddle approach to filmmaking, but other than that it’s a very accomplished set. The first tune is a composition by Graeme McGillivray and the second by James Law. Visit www.trionua.com
