Traditional Irish Music
We covered The Bonny Men and their debut album back in 2012. They are back in the studio again finishing off their 2nd album which is due for release in the Spring. Its going to be split evenly between songs and instrumental with a lot of new compositions featuring. As a band they formed in 2011 and feature two sets of siblings, both from well known musical families. Barry Lyons on guitar and brother Conor on bodhrán feature with Maitiú Ó Casaide on uilleann pipes and his younger sister Natalie on piano. All-Ireland champion Moss Landman is on flute, Turlough Chambers is on fiddle and Adam Whelan is on bouzouki.
This track called The Day is Mine is taking them into new territory for a traditional band. Its a big rousing chorus number building from a simple guitar and piano introduction with layers of pipes and strings filling out the sound. We will watch their progress with interest.
