Notes from the Road : Lúnasa - January 2018

Happy New Year to All and welcome to 2018! We had a really great year and finished up in fine style on our Irish Christmas Tour with Ashley Davis in Silver Spring, MD. What a wonderful three weeks it was. From Dallas to Cleveland to Maryland and everywhere in between we had the best of fun and best of audiences too. Thank you to everyone that came along to the shows and at times battling through some serious weather conditions to make it happen.

Our main job this week is to decide on a name for our new album ?? We’re just putting the finishing touches to it at the minute but it’s scheduled for release in February and we’re very excited and delighted with how it sounds. It’s our 20 year celebratory CD and Lúnasa’s first release featuring both songs and tunes. Tim O’Brien, Natalie Merchant, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Daoiri Farrell, Eric Bibb and the extended Lúnasa team with Colin and Patrick contributing in a major way too. We’ll have full release details in our next newsletter or keep an eye on facebook for announcements.

Many of our shows throughout the early part of 2018 will feature one or more of these amazing singers and musicians so bring it on!

We start 2018 with our first UK tour for 4 years, a short trip based around the amazing Celtic Connections Festivak but we hope to start going back more regularly again. Before that though, a big event is panned for Dublin’s Liberty Hall. On Jan 20th, we will play a concert to help raise funds for The Armagh Pipers Club, run on a voluntary basis since 1966 by Cillian’s parents, Brian and Eithne. The concert promises to be an incredible night of music with many of the truly great acts in Irish music – Mairtin O’Connor, Cathal Hayden, Seamie O’Dowd, Andy Irvine, Daoiri Farrell, Buille, Karan Casey and Brian Finnegan.
