Traditional Irish Music
Its one of those weeks when a lot of information comes to us at the same time with a common thread. You know by now that we are fans of The Yanks from New York and their debut album of the same name. You can read our review here. We came across this pretty cool video/audio of Yanks accordion player Dan Gurney aged 7.
Dinotopia artist James Gurney interviewed and sketched his son Dan when he was seven years old and just starting to play traditional Irish music on the button accordion. James Gurney's pencil sketches show Dan and his musical heroes. For the first time on this video, the sound and pictures are brought together.
All the sketches were made during live concerts from 1993-1996. The drawings portray Elwood Smith, Joe Derrane, John Nolan, John Williams, Chris Naughton, the Progressive Bluegrassers, Four in the Groove, and Roger Polansky.
