Side Lines : Want to know the Irish traditional Soundcloud track that has passed 32,000 plays?

Want to know what the most played Irish traditional track on Soundcloud is? Over the last year or so we have monitored Soundcloud to establish a Top 10 and we posted it recently here.

However for this piece we are focusing on hardcore Irish trad and are pleased to announce that the most played track on Soundcloud is by none other that Bobby Casey. His track Toss The Feathers has reached over 32,000 people and continues to grow by the day.

Now we have to admit that we had a little help along the way from our friends at the BBC who featured the track on one of their playlists and that has continued to draw close to 1,000 listeners a day to the track.  How proud Bobby would be if he knew one of his tracks had gone global.

Check it out below.

Thanks for making these tracks available on SoundCloud! The trad tunes continue to do well in the World Music genre on iTunes as well -- and St. Paddy's Day pushes even more trad tunes toward the top for a few weeks every year. An album of trad tunes by my band The Irish Experience has done very well on iTunes, particularly our recording of Morrison's Jig (aka: Stick Across The Hob, Maurice Carmody's Favorite). Contemporary Celtic groups such as Gaelic Storm and Celtic Woman, which lean heavily on tradition, remain high in the charts all year:
