Siobhán Smith Album Launch in Grand Social Dublin 27th August "Timing is Everything"

Timing is Everything is the debut album release by Siobhán Smith and it is being launched tonight 27th August 2013 in The Grand Social in Dublin's city centre.  Born and raised in New York Siobhán grew up in a family immersed in Irish Traditional Music and Dance. Classical training on violin came first with her love and passion for Irish traditional never far away. Her traditional training came from renowned fiddler Pete Kelly from Galway.  She joined him and Martin Mulhare in the “Pete Kelly Ceili Band”. From this she immersed herself in the music scene of New York returning home to Dublin in 2006 to take up study.

On this album she melds together a range of styles that have influenced her over the years. Its Irish traditional with country, folk, rock and old-time also in the mix. Songs like It Must Be Love by Don Williams, an early American song by J.T.Ely called Who Will Sing For Me and a Paul Brady song called Follow On are included.  Into this she mixes several traditional tracks and some self compositions like Teardrops on My Fiddle, an Old-Time Waltz that captures the sadness of tone in the fiddle. The Melting Pot Set features New Hands by Aidan Burke, Dr.Gilbert's, Julia Delaney's and The Curlew by the one and only Josephine Keegan.  The Road Not Taken is a self composition inspired by the Robert Frost poem of the same name. Beautifully arranged and played it does justice to the beauty and mood of the poem. Drawing on modern composers and old alike Timing is Everything is a mix of influences that has the potential to raise the music up onto a stage platform and should make for an interesting launch on 27th August, with other shows no doubt to follow.  If you like this mix to your music it might just be for you.
