Hmm... We can't post videos with singing in the video section, but no explanation why.
OK. Let's try it here.

When I came up with this arrangement of SotCD I wanted to do something different from everything else. Let me know what you think.

Hammered dulcimer - TradConnect member Jim Rathbun and his 10 year old student Noah Jefferies

6 string Banjo - Greg Kaiser

Fiddle - Kelly Kaiser

Guitar and vocal - Bruce Evans

I plead Nolo contendere  to the "country-bluegrass-ballad" connection. I wasn't trying to be true to anything except myself.

Hi Bruce;

I caught this video last night...like it.

I think what you have done is added more of a country-bluegrass-ballad them to it by playing it this way.  Mid you if you listen to the Chieftains' rendition they have a somewhat marching theme to it, still keeping to the "Irish" sound.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GbdB7PlGtc

I have played with pipe bands that do 3/4 march style, and it does sound quite different instrumentally than vocally.

Good Stuff;

AJ

Hi Bruce
I know its an unpopular rule on this site but in the start up phase of TradConnect I am trying to keep a focus. With Trad unless the sound or lighting is poor everything is approved. Singing and voice would I feel start to bring the site in the direction of folk, country, MOR, etc and this would become very hard to monitor. I understand that voice is central to the tradition etc etc and I myself sing and play guitar. I will in the future try and find some way to accommodate voice/singing and am trying to come up with some way to make this work.
