The 19th Michael Dwyer Festival kicks off on 9th June 2017

2017 marks the 19th Michael Dwyer Festival and the 20th anniversary of Michael's death. Michael was a talented performer, composer and much loved member of the local community. He was one of the highly gifted Dwyer family from Cailroe, Beara, a renowned fiddle and tin whistle player who composed more than a hundred tunes. He was a national Tin Whistle champion in both Ireland and England, taking first place in many Feiseanna Ceoil, and was well known and respected in Dublin and London trad scenes of the 1960's, 70's and 80's, along with his brothers Finbar, John and Richard whose musical gifts we also celebrate each year at the festival. Michael had returned to his native Beara where he passed away in June 9th 1997.

His life and music will once again be celebrated at this years festival. Highlights include a CD launch with Dan Brouder and Angelina Carberry on opening night, a 20th anniversary concert on Saturday with special guest and tin whistle player Mary Bergin, along with John and Richard Dwyer, Matt Cranitch, Jackie Daly, Sean Garvey, Mary Donegan and young musician Orlaith Murphy.
