Traditional Irish Music
The Gathering traditional music festival takes place in Killarney, Co. Kerry this weekend and they have a great line up of concerts, sessions and céilí’s for all. We have been covering it here on Tradconnect and have featured a number of articles from some of the artists involved. Tonight at 7.30 they have a traditional singers concert with Meaití Jó Shéamuis Ó Fáthartha, Tim Dennehy, Sean Garvey, Christy Cronin, Meabh Begley, Pat O’Sullivan, Jim Walsh, and many more. At 9.00pm tonight Seán Keane & Band as well as Arcady will take to the stage.
Tomorrow 22nd February at 1.30pm there will be a concert that includes the likes of Dan Brouder, Angelina Carberry, Paudie O'Connor, Liam O’Connor, Séan McKeown, Caoimhín Ó Feargháil, Paul Meehan & Seamus O’Donnell. To close out the concert series at 8.00pm tomorrow night The Scattering Concert will feature Jackie Daly, Matt Cranitch , Geraldine O’ Callaghan and Paul De Grae. Also appearing will be The Unwanted featuring Cathy Jordan, Seamus O’ Dowd and Rick Epping.
The quality of music that is on show this weekend is unquestionably high. Here is a playlist that we featured earlier in the month.
We also spoke to a number of the artists including Matt Cranitch who confirmed that he is “particularly pleased this time to be able to feature our friends and colleagues who play with us on the CD, namely Conal, Geraldine and Paul. We will showcase material from the album, as well as other favourite tunes. Personally, I am delighted to have twin fiddles in the line-up, as it is a particular feature of the Sliabh Luachra style to have two fiddles with one playing down the octave from time to time. This is such a wonderful aspect of the music. The concert on Sunday, 22nd Feb promises to be a great occasion, especially being the first outing of the Rolling On Big Band!”
Matt Cranitch and Jackie Daly are celebrating the release of their new album called Rolling On and you can read our earlier review of the album. A track is included on the above playlist.
We also featured an interview with Caoimhín Ó Feargháil which you can also read.
Finally congrats to Brian Saunders who won a pre-concert meal and tickets to two of tonight's shows for a party of four.
