The Gathering's Rising Stars of Trad - Submit your video and appear at the festival in February 2015

On 18th-22nd February 2015 The Gathering traditional music festival will celebrate its 16th anniversary.  It takes place each year at the INEC and Gleneagle Hotel in Killarney and showcases the best in traditional music and dance. This year they have once again surpassed themselves with a line-up of some of the best traditional talent which includes both established and new artists.

The prospect of a performance from Matt Cranitch & Jackie Daly, who have just released a new album of Sliabh Luachra music will be high on many peoples agenda.  In addition to this there is a reformed Arcady to look forward to, fiddle supremo Liam O' Connor, Gradam Winner and multi-instrumentalist Caoimhín Ó Fearghail, accordionist Paudie O’ Connor, Sean Keane and Band, The Unwanted and many more.  The festival is renowned for its workshops and master classes and these combined with ceili’s, concerts and daily sessions will make for a very entertaining week.

As an added bonus The Gathering have this year decided to provide a platform for young rising stars in traditional music.  Up-and-coming musicians who are taking their first steps into a professional career in music, as well as musicians who may have been around a little while but have not yet quite made the breakthrough, will get their chance to shine.

Performances will take place on the Rising Stars stage which will be located in the Backstage Bar. There will also be the opportunity for even younger stars to take part with afternoon slots as well as evening performances.

Festival Chairperson John O' Shea explained to us that “The Gathering Traditional Festival of Irish Music, Song and Dance have always prided themselves in nurturing new talent. Over the past 10 years The Gathering’s  Schools outreach programme has been a hugely successful part of the Education Programme, with groups of singers, dancers, musicians and storytellers visiting the local primary schools promoting the local Sliabh Luachra Tradition.”

He goes on to state that “This rising stars stage will give a voice to new and emerging talent in front of a target market.  Artists are invited to submit a short video or audio by following the instructions given below.  These submissions will be posted on Tradconnect and a specially selected judging panel will select a number of artists to appear throughout the festival.”

The judging panel will consist of The Gathering Festival Chairperson John O'Shea, Managing Director of The Gleneagle Hotel & INEC Patrick O'Donoghue & Award Winning Traditional Irish Musician & Vocalist Niamh Ní Charra.
