The Hogan Collection - Songs from the Repertoire of Dick Hogan

There are not many times in life when you get completely blown away by the pure scale of a musical project undertaken by an individual.  This however is such an occasion. We have just received a review copy of  The Hogan Collection by Tradconnect member Dick Hogan. "The songs in this collection are almost entirely from the Irish tradition, a stand-alone collection and reference book of songs and a few spoken pieces, the collection totals two hundred in all. It is accompanied by a box set of recordings and in addition this extensive collection is available as 25 individual Cd's in 12 themes."

This is a 10 year project in the making and shows the depths of dedication that can exist to preserve songs that you will not hear every day.  Many have never been recorded before in any format going back to even the old '78's. We have started to listen to the collection and it will take us some time but we will get a review up shortly. If you follow this link you can get a flavor of what is involved with the themed albums.  For anyone interested in traditional songs, or getting your hands on some rare, humorous or nationalistic songs this might just be for you.

“The whole bubbling mass embodies everything that could be said about “Irishness”. Dick's is in fact a unique world that takes exceptional focus to maintain and stamina to chronicle. It is quite remarkable to find it all in the one person in the twenty-first century. This lyric cosmos runs behind Dick Hogan's daily life like an everlasting silent movie. Dick lets the volume and variety of lyrics and melodies celebrate the older world as a holiday for the imagination.”
