Traditional Irish Music
There is a certain magic in the air when Paddy Keenan takes to the stage. This veteran Bothy Band member seems to be constantly touring the world weaving his own spell of musical magic as he goes. He kicked off a new season of gigs in the Harcourt Hotel in Dublin last night in the company of James Riley on Guitar and Eamonn De Barra on flute, bodhrán and keyboards. And what a nights entertainment it was. They covered a back catalogue of great and well worn tunes mixed in with some nice stories and some self compositions. Kicking off with Willie Coleman's/Scatter The Mud/Old Favorite followed by The Steam Packet/Morning Star reels we knew we were in for a good night and we were not disappointed. This wasn't a solo effort and the input of Eamonn and James made for a more rounded show. A fantastic nights entertainment with guest appearances from Niamh Parsons and others. Plenty of time to catch him on his Irish tour so don't pass up the opportunity.
Special mention should also be given to the trio of DIT players that offered support in the form of Declan Magee, Niall Preston and Mark Redmond on accordion, bodhrán and uilleann pipes who have a very bright future indeed. Fantastic playing and a bodhrán solo by Niall that I haven't seen the likes of in quite a while.
