1. Tonnta Ceoil - One Sue

Lucky for Some is the debut album by a new Clare based group called Tonnta Ceoil and this is the first release from it.  Young, enthusiastic and creative their lifelong interest in music has culminated in this release.  It shows that they have a confident streak when it comes to playing music that reflects both their lives and their broader influences.  Read more.

 

2. Bridget Fitzgerald - Eileanóir a Rún

Taken from the album Two Sides of a Coyne which includes seventeen traditional Irish songs recorded by Bridget Fitzgerald and her close friend, guitarist Carol Barney. Several years ago, following Carol’s untimely death, the project was shelved. But all the while Bridget hoped to finish the album, partly as a tribute to Carol. Now, with the help of many musician-friends, she has been able to complete the journey.  Read more.

 

3. Juhn Echo - The Hills

Juhn Echo are a seriously impressive new band that have just released an EP with the track below called The Hills taken from it.  Every now and again we venture away from the trad circuit to show that it is still a creative environment that brings different musicians and styles together.  Juhn Echo display an inherent talent for a sweetly crafted melody and the rest of the EP is just as promising.

 

4. Lynched - The Tri-Coloured House

Folk music can still be innovative and exciting as shown by this debut from Dublin band Lynched.  A variety of styles and influences have collided on Cold Old Fire to make it the most exciting album of traditional Irish song in decades.

 

5. Átlas - Spootiskerry

“Átlas lights the dance floor on fire with a combination of traditional and newly composed Irish dance tunes” according to their website. Fierce fiddle, driving bodhrán, and funky guitar riffs come together to lift listeners' feet, drinks, and spirits.

 

6. Tom Morley & Hazel Ketchum - Father Kelly’s

Tom Morley has also just released a duet album with guitarist Hazel Ketchum called Banna De Dhá / Band of Two.  It has been picking up lots of positive reviews in the states.  Within the 9 tracks he includes some well-known Clare sets including this one.  Read more

 

7. Louis Bingham - John Kelly’s

Guitarist and tenor banjo player specialising in Irish traditional music but with interests in many other musical styles.  Louis currently plays a duo with Freya Rae and as a member of the Copper Dragon Ceilidh Band.



8. Kris Drever & Éamonn Coyne - Winter Moon

This is the first release from a new EP by Kris Drever and Éamonn Coyne that will be released in September 2014.  Its called Wintermoon and the EP will be called Mareel. Read more.
