Track of the Week : Open the Door For Three / The Rat in the Thatch (25th October 2015)

Our track of the week comes from Open the Door For Three.  Clocking up close to 250 plays on our Soundcloud file over the last seven days, it is from their new album called The Penny Wager. The band includes members Liz Knowles(fiddle), Kieran O'Hare (uilleann pipes, flute, whistle) and Pat Broaders (bouzouki, songs).

This track includes three reels. The Rat in the Thatch ( also known as The Maid of Tullyknockbrine ) is from the Donegal tradition, but influenced in this case by the playing of Frankie Gavin.Kieran learned Hanly's from the great flute player Desi WilkinsonThe Boys of Portaferry is the last tune in the set.
