Traditional Irish Music
In her first visit to Australia, and hot on the heels of successful tours in the US and Germany, Co Tyrone singer Bernadette Morris continues on her travels across the globe, delivering her own take on Irish traditional songs and new writings from the likes of Barry Kerr and John Spillane.
The National Celtic Festival in Portarlington, Victoria, from 10-14 June, is first stop for this popular traditional singer and musician, before moving on to New South Wales for a run of gigs from 15-19 June.
Accompanied by guitarist Niall Hanna, her appearance builds on the success of her debut album, All the Ways you Wander, produced by Sean Óg Graham of Beoga fame. Described by Paul Brady as ‘one of the best (new releases) this year with Bernadette’s sweet pure voice ringing clear…”, You can read our review of the album from 2013, and included below is a track from the album.
Bernadette is delighted to have been invited to be part of the Festival in Victoria, her first in the Antipodes, and to continue her tour into Sydney, all of which has been generously supported by Culture Ireland.
Speaking as she gets set to leave Ireland, she said “I am so honoured to have this chance to do a mini-tour of Australia as well as being part of the fantastic National Celtic Festival. The debut album has done well on this side of the world and to have the opportunity to share my songs and music with a new audience in Australia is just amazing. I’m also delighted to be working with the talented Niall Hanna and I’d really like to thank Culture Ireland who have supported this tour”.
If you are in the area from the 10 to the 19 June don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy the talents of one of the most unique traditional voices to emerge from Ireland for many years. For more details go to www.bernadettemorris.com; and http://www.nationalcelticfestival.com/.
"Of the younger up and coming artists' records in the Irish traditional vein, Bernadette Morris' CD All the Ways you Wander is one of the best this year. The overall style shows the growing influence of the new global wave of acoustic music with overtones of Americana and even a hint of Latin creeping into the rhythm from time to time. Bernadette's sweet pure voice rings clear above the rich and diverse arrangements, on a well-chosen collection of songs, both traditional and contemporary. Fave tracks 'The Leaving Song', Lord Donegal, A Rovin' On A Winter's Night, Captain Glenn' and the old time waltz closer 'Sweet Forget Me Not'."
PAUL BRADY (Award winning Irish Singer- Songwriter)
“From epic ballads that have stood the test of time to verses newly written, Bernadette Morris has an ear for great songs and a fine voice to bring them to new generations.”
