First Listen : Up and About in the Morning by Noel Battle & Roisin Broderick

Up and About in the Morning is a new album by Noel Battle and Roisin Broderick.  Noel is from Westmeath and Roisin is an All-Ireland champion on concertina from Galway.  They met while on a Comhaltas Tour of Ireland in 2012 and Britain in 2013.  Too much spare time on the tour bus led to an exploration of  music that worked well on these instruments.

Its a rare treat to find a duet of harmonica and concertina and on this recording they demonstrate the sweet harmony that these instruments have in common.  Noel's Tombo harmonica and Roisin's Wheatstone and Jeffries concertina's pick their way through 17 great sets.  A lot of familiar tune names that sound great including Henchy's Delight, Last Night's Fun, Ballinasloe Fair and others.  We will get to a review shortly.

Beautiful, who would have thought  that a harmonica and a concertinas could complete  each other so well. Very well done.
