Traditional Irish Music
Dr. Matt Cranitch will give a talk on Maida McQuinn Sugrue, a pupil of Pádraig O’Keeffe’s, on Friday May 20th at 8pm at O’Riada’s Bar, Ballymac and open sessions will be held in Castleisland afterwards.
On Saturday 21st May at 12 noon we will open World Fiddle Day in Lyons Bar where iconic Sliabh Luachra musician Jackie Daly will present rare colour photos which were taken by Jim Griffith of Tucson, Arizona in August 1957, when he visited Lyons Bar with Seamus Ennis to meet Patrick O’Keeffe.
At 2pm, in the Heritage Centre, a display of historic memorabilia and posters relating to the old Scartaglin Feile Cheoil will be opened by Bryan O’Leary and Niamh McSweeney - grandchildren of Johnny O’Leary and Mikey Duggan, who were an integral part of Feile Cheoils past.
Our Fiddle group photo takes place at 4pm.
Afterwards, Dr. Máire O’Keeffe will talk about the legendary Sliabh Luachra fiddle player Julia Clifford, in Lyon’s bar, the scene of many seminal recordings over the years, Billy Clifford will be the special guest at this talk and Sliabh Luachra fiddlers will play a selection of Julia's music in a special all fiddle recital.
At at 7.30 in the Heritage Centre, Peter Browne, of RTE Radio, will give a talk "Journeys in Sliabh Luachra".
The all fiddle concert "Across The County Bounds" will follow at 8.15 presented by fiddle player Con Moynihan.
