Thank you Professor Moriarty, I'm sure it was great fun to play along with Earl Scruggs. But I have to share that I never did get into such famous company! Once, though, and it was by pure chance, I was introduced to Kenny Baker the famous US Bluegrass Fiddler, and I still have a photo of myself and Kenny taken after a show.
But you are absolutely right about the demise of the old music, the stuff we all loved back in the day when old recordings were all that we had to learn from. Too, I see you got blessed with magic from the travelers who shared their wonderful lore with you.
My dear departed grandmother always said "If you can't say something good about someone, say nothing" A trip to Reichenbach Falls would be good for you Professor!
Again - pull yor head out, where do i say i have never heard of Rudall & Rose?? I have played Cathal McConnell's Rudall, and i have been aware of their existence for decades!
All i am saying is, that claiming they're 'the best' - period, is a sweeping statement.
Stick to facts and give your name dropping a rest. I really don't care if you've consulted Brian Ború, or who's the biggest expert on earth.
Maybe it would be good for you to pull your head out of your rear end and smell the real world? You might find many novel things?
Like the fact every second hand Rudall & Rose isn't immediately picked up by a holy Irish (because surely people from other countries can't play, and much less know anything about Irish music?!) flute player, since they're 'the best' - period.
Yes Professor, you are right, I know nothing about Irish music. Nothing at all. I sit on internet forums about trad so I can learn more about the music. I hope that makes you feel better. I know its what you want to hear. And I know that no matter what I say, who I can claim as music friends (probably many you would respect) it makes no difference as for some reason - you only want to know that I am crap, with crap tastes. Well - that is fine. I am crap, I have no taste in music - I can hardly play a note, I use a music stand in sessions, I play the shaky eggs, etc etc add whatever you feel to the list.
Do you know what I wish most of all though? That you would let whatever this is go, it can't be healthy being so angry all of the time. I hope you get some peace about it. Move on though - go play tunes - who cares what anyone else says? Do you know what I mean?
So? What does any of that mean? Some of the very best Trad musicians I have ever met have a) never been famous/on tv or in competitions. and some of them aren't even *SHOCK HORROR*..Irish. Those competitions are a complete farce anyway. They leave no room for anything other than playing the EXACT same way as everyone else, sorry, but I place no weight on that at all. Honestly- straight off the boat, not the best musician myself and those lads you mentioned welcomed me no questions asked. So I have to wonder what you did, just from your post it seems that you think extremely highly of yourself and you brag about yourself and c'mon - if that isn't going to tick people off I have no idea what what. Its like you expect kudos or something, rather than just sitting down and having a few tunes for the love of it. Very strange.
