Thanks for the greetings, Tony & I hope to keep a regular check on the tradconnect site. I'll be sure to mention the site on my own website & also on my facebook page. This Alabama Irish fiddler will be in Dublin on Sept. 26th (arriving in Ireland several days earlier to play in Sligo at the wedding of Fairhope AL Irish Pub owner Ronan McSharry). Maybe we can 'trad-connect' that day and play a few tunes together! Any fellow who's had lessons from Peter Cooper, author of my all-time favorite book on Irish Fiddling (and the one I always have my own students learn from) is a fiddling friend of mine already!
:-) Of course, you can argue! Defining "traditional" is often the start of a huge argument resulting in at least one accordian player storming out of the bar for good, a fiddle player throwing up her arms needing another beer, and a singer standing up to sing some dirge-like song that gives singers a bad name because all the instrumentalists are fighting! Best wishes & with respect always, Abby
Seeing as there are some absolutely shameful "traditional" instrumental playing out there, I'd say it is a pretty arbitrary line to draw. And exactly what is traditional? To me traditional can be anything with its roots solidly in the original tradition and should respect (in other words have knowledge about) the tradition. Otherwise, guitar is out, bouzouki is definitely out.... But it is with respect to the original tradition that these instruments and slight stylistic choices are allowed in the growing tradition. Singing is a deep tradition... one that is mostly a cappella, but it is almost always understood and accepted when bands or singers arrange those songs with accompaniment. To allow a singer to have his or her own singing video posted... well, that is to let their voice connect with other singers of their level or who want to support their efforts just as it is with all levels of instrument playing (it's not to embarrass or promote your site). To simply not allow song videos is to chop off a huge arm of the tradition. I hope this policy is changed soon. I'm a pretty crummy instrumentalist (though learning, growing and respectful), but I am a strong singer who deeply believes in the tradition of Irish song.
Hi Tony, Thanks for sending me the tips on how to manage my page. I'll try to work on it now and then. I've updated my music and biographical information for you.
Thanks for creating this site! I've uploaded some videos of my own in the spirit of sharing rather than of displaying any great talent! I'm looking forward to the time when you start to create your regional groups.

Hi Tony,
I just wanted to say that the new site logo is very nice. I don't know if you came up with the concept or not but it's great.

Hi, Tony,
Thanks for your welcome.
I like the idea, and look forward to the groups.
About Melanie's question, it would be good to use a bit of Gaelic now and again.

Hi Tony -- You're right -- I'm in the "cautious" stage.
But I do appreciate the hearty welcome.
Forgive my ignorance, but what is the translation of your closing salutation?
