Nice site Tony, Thanks for the welcome. I finally got a pic uploaded. The first couple times failed. I thought maybe the it was being rejected for being to ugly until I realized I had to hit the Save button Whew.
I started playing music sort of late in life, kind of a retirement thing. I have a lot of fun with it and have made some great friends. I enjoy many genres of music, but have lately gravitated to old time American songs and some Irish Scottish of which I hope to expand upon. Anyway thanks for your effort on this site.
Thanks Tony, I will fill out a more complete profile shortly. We just moved here and don't even have wifi yet. Borrowing a weak connection from the neighbor as we speak. One I am set up I will definitely be more active. I am originally from Michigan and was a drive in the Trad community there. Will have to slowly break into the Philly community now. Tom
I'll try to get a profile pic up soon & will also read the info you have suggested.
I started playing guitar circa 1964 at age 13. Then I had the opportunity in 1967 of seeing Shetland fiddler Ali Bain play a concert in Ann Arbor Michigan, which was prior to his joining the group "Boys of the Lough".
Ali was backed up on the guitar, at the time, by a fellow named Mike Whelans.
Anyway, Ali's playing of traditional Celtic tunes was influential in my older brother, Dennis, and my desire to take up the fiddle- which we did on a loaned 1/2 sized violin (!) that we played for a few years until we acquired a full sized instrument.
And we've been having a blast ever since!
By the way, in my area of the northern lower peninsula of Michigan, USA, there is quite a lot of interest in Irish, and some Scottish, traditional music, and we have a nice session twice a month in a local burg. The county that I lived in was settled years ago by primarily Irish immigrants and I think this may be the reason for the continued interest in this type of music.
Thanks for the welcome message. I also started life in Mayo, have a lot of experiance with musicians all around the world, I do like to play with and listen to the best.
Tony, glad to be aboard. TradConnect has some nice resources and I look forward to visiting often. In fact, have just seen a pub session posted that we might be able to visit on our trip to Ireland.
PS. I also received an email from Anita as mentioned by Jim Lewis.
Tony - I just received the note below through your portal and thought it looked like spam and you would want to know -

Hey Tony. Sorry, didn't get back to you sooner. Only started using this again. Hmm, let me think about it. Would it be possible to start inviting people directly from Facebook? I wouldn't really interact with other musicians via e-mail. Therefore, wouldn't have they're addresses or have them listed in my G-mail contacts. I'm not really that technical, so I don't know if this can be done.
