Hiya Katie,

This is just a line to say thanks for joining the Carolan group. I hope you get lots of fun out of your membership and find the inspiration to learn lots of “new” tunes from amongst the archives. Even if you don't do one every day :-)

As a member, you are most welcome to contribute to any of the group discussions, add new ones, nominate a “tune of the week”, find content for any of the archives etc etc. The group is pointless without member contributions so don’t be shy!!!!

I also welcome any and all suggestions about how the group can be improved – so don’t be shy about that either!! – Oh, and if you see me on the “Chat” screen in Tradconnect, please come and say Hi.

Kind regards,

It is! There is a real intensity to it. It’s a bit beyond my current skill set but I’m going to play it one of these days.

Hi Katie! Can you tell me where you found the tune 'Ringing the Bell'? It's such a great tune and yet I've been unable to track down any other version of it, much less the dots. Did you happen to write it yourself?

Hello there, your crookedness! Here's a wee hornpipe that did my head in on the pipes, maybe a challenge *just to remember all the bloody parts* : )

(The tune starts after the song, around 2:50 )

Addition: Forgot to mention it's Boys of the lough/Aly Bain, an old live recording from 1974

Yes indeed they were, You could pretend you don't know them? ;)

Seriously speaking, the Davy Spillane version of these tunes is absolutely cracking IMO..

You got me started on jigs/slip jigs there.. damn you ; ) I'm supposed to work now..

Anyway this is a real showpiece of piping/music..

This is one of *the* jig sets as far as i am concerned.. I think Liam O'Flynn has  'Brian O'Lynn' after Seamus Ennis, IMO the Dubliners version is nicer (can't find any recording of it atm though) In any case i love this set, usually play it a bit more 'tempo moderato' a lá Ronan Browne/Peter O'Loughlin, and i think they sound that much better for it.

East at Glendart/Brian O'Lynn/Pay the reckoning

Congrats on the well deserved 'showcasing' : )

Give me a hoot if you run short of tunes ; )

Best wishes.

Yeah you sure did 'Sean in the mist'.. : )

I hope you don't feel obliged to actually do my tunes? They're just suggestions, and sometimes just for the sake of sharing a good tune : )

Hi, my name is Lars and i am a tune provider. This time i have a few sets from 'An bodhrán' by my personal Bodhrán Jesus, Colm Murphy for you. I'm glad you like the tunes i post and i love to hear your renditions!

All the best, my friend!

The lonesome polkas (Never heard you play polkas, and this is a nice set IMO)

The Blooming meadows/The king of the pipers/Give us a drink of water (Love the first tune, pretty similar to the played to death Kesh jig. : ) )

Seán in the mist/The mason's apron (first tune i loved from the very first time i heard it, lovely, haunting theme)
