New Irish Language Song, Sean Nós group.
Our focus is on 'Sean Nós' and traditional Irish Song,
as well Irish Ballads in the English Language.
The Irish Roots Cafe house band !
In its purest form, Sean Nós is sung solo, in the Irish Language,
with a raw, unprocessed sound, and learned as part of an
oral tradition.
It's been so many years, Mike, "It's all Greek to me." LOL Still manage to get along pretty well in German, however.
Slan,
Dave
Although it's been nearly 40 years, I remember Bellarmine very well! (I took Greek 101 there one summer in graduate school.) Am looking forward to listening to more of your postings on Trad!
Slainte,
Dave
Slainte Mhaith, Mike. Thanks for writing back so quickly! I cannot help it; I have fallen in love with Ireland and the Irish! Several years ago, I dated (off and on) a lady from Waterford. Nothing serious, but we became extremely good friends. It became interesdting because I live in Fredericksburg VA, and she was a great grand-niece of General Thomas Meagher, commanding officer of the Civil War Irish Brigade. (I live in the center of the battlefield here at Fredericksburg, where the brigade performed legendary service in December of 1862. )
I see you with a guitar. I have played strings almost all of my life. Currently, I have 2 Martin guitars, a Taylor, and a 1977 vintage Gibson banjo. I am also in love with acoustic stringed instruments. If I weren't so old, I'd like to take up fiddle and bouzouki! LOL
I see you are from the KC area. One of my colleagues in broadcasting in Louisville left to to to a KC television station (many years ago.) His name was Stacy Smith. (Did you ever see him on the tube?)
Looking forward to more sharing of things Irish (especially music.)
Regards,
Dave Siler

Mike, good day to you. I have followed Irish Music since 1959 when I first saw Tommy Makem and he Clancy Bros while watching Ed Sullivan on telly. (I was 11 y.o.) I have been fascinated by all things Irish these last 59 years, have played trad music on banjo and guitar all this time, and plan to take up fiddle next. Favorite groups are the Clancy's, Dubliners, Wolfe Tones, Patrick Street, Chieftains, and Irish Roves. I was able to meet Liam Clancy before he died, and he gave me a signed copy of his autobiography. (After we shared a pint.!)
I think Irish music is the most beautiful music anywhere, and now that I am retired, I play it several hours each day. I look forward o hearing more of your postings and appreciate the opportunity to meet you.
Slainte,
Dave Siler

How are you? It has been a long time from my last message. I uploaded my original song to youtube.
Would you please watch the video? And I'm very happy if you tell me your impressions about my music.

Thanks a million Mike!
Hope you can make it to Bar Harbor some time for the festival week.
Hey Mike!!! Loved your "Skibbereen" posting. As always,...very nicely done, with a tinge of "emotional haunting". Hope your holidays are going well (so far) and will continue to do so throughout the New Year and beyond. Cheers & Good Health to You,
Danny

Come April 25, this year, there will be a gathering of sean nós singers, dancers, musicians, listeners, enthusiasts and fans. It is a peoples movement, intended to introduce many folks to the 'old style'. In fact, most people in the Heart of America do not know what 'sean nós' is. We are going to change that, on a zero budget, with real life…
