like to play at sessions enjoy singing sessions too travel to some of the festivals during the summer months have completed some of the banjo workshops
Hi Frances! Yeah, we got all moved into the new house in Flagstaff! It really is a beautiful place. Unfortunately, I 'm not able to enjoy it much though! lol I work in Laguna Beach (7 hours away) so I'm only able to make it back on weekends and then there may be times when I'm not able to (like this weekend). At least my sons are able to all attend the same college there and enjoy the scenery!
"Looped" strings refers to not having the ball at the end of the string. Most mandolins are the "ball type". It is possible yours may be different however. Might be best to have someone look at it if you are not sure.
Hey Frances! Happy belated New Years to you! Just thought I'd follow up to see if you ever had an opportunity to try out those strings...Let me know what you think of them if you have! Hope all is well with you...
Hiya, joined way back when it started, member 100! Tony Lawless who runs site is one of our Dublin gang of fluters although he plays the fiddle! Hope to see u over Christmas. Hav been v busy . off to Cryans 2nite for concertina workshop and slow session and party after, Mags will be there too.
Hey Frances! So happy to learn they sell them there! I recommend starting with the light if the majority of your playing is practice and consider going with the heavier gauges if you sit in on sessions a lot (for volume). John Pierce does make a Medium Guage as well which I use a lot. It provides the volume without the additional stress on the neck associated with heavier guage strings.
Hey Frances...I'm certain you'll be happy with those strings! They will be worth the wait! Don't feel bad, your country is not alone! I think just about every country is feeling the economic crunch! All of us may need to take out loans from China! They seem to be the only ones with money nowadays! lol
Ya, I don't know where I would be without music! It has been my sanctuary most all my life!
Hi Frances! I've used John Pierce strings for years after trying so many others out there. They are well balanced, set in fast, and they outlast much of the competition out there in keeping their tonal character. I think you would be very pleased with them. They can be found at: www.jpstrings.com

Hi Frances, I started to write a comment a few seconds, it seems to have vanished! So, start again...thank you for the invite, it sounds like a great bluegrass scene where you are. Good luck with the tenor. Great to be in touch with folk from across the pond. Breda.
Hello from Virginia, USA I'm just learning the tenor. My girlfriend gave me her mother's 1923 Vega Whyte Ladie, it sounds wonderful. I have played Old Time (appalachian) on my 5 string for 30 yrs. Is there a lot of bluegrass in Ireland? You should come here this area has some of the best in the US.
