Irish Snug monster session - Denver CO

A friend posted this and I thought I would put it up here as further evidence of the thriving interest in sessions here in the US, and in Denver, Colorado in particular. I wasn't at this one this past Sunday but at one half its size at only 15 players,lol, the day before.

Dick, those sessions actually sound quite inviting and I can't wait to take a trip to visit one or two, have a pint and play a tune one day.  Its hard to hear myself playin' in these large groups, though then no one really hears my mistakes either (-;

Ha Ha! Russ, in most Snugs of the Irish Bars I know, you'd be lucky to squeeze 5 thin players in!

This looks more like a huge Lounge or Banqueting Hall. ;-)

It seems then, that it is a lot like our Sunday evening session in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Last night we had  perhaps 12 players at the high point, but occasionally we will have as many as 20 or so. Last winter - the Sunday after the Super Bowl - we had a planned event which we call Super Session (duh) when we invited musicians from other cities within about 50 or so miles. We had 67 musicians that day.

BTW, some Irish musicians (you know, those who live in Ireland) are aghast at the  size of our sessions. We even allow more than one guitar to play at a time!

Bruce, this is a regular Sunday afternoon session in downtown Denver. I think it regularly gets maybe 6-10 players, sometimes less or more.  So I believe that this volume of players was unusual and spontaneous.

Was this a planned event?
